Say YES to Dessert for Breakfast

Pancakes. French Toast. Pop Tarts. Cocoa Puffs. Sugary, sweet dessert-like breakfasts have been around as far as I can remember. Now my mother, in her defense, did try to steer her children in a healthy way (by feeding us the dreaded Raisin Bran cereal before we realized that it had just as much sugar as our beloved Cinnamon Toast Crunch), but I have always had an affinity for dessert at all times of day.

So with the help of just four ingredients, you can whip up a dessert for breakfast that will hit that sweet tooth early to help you keep the rest of the day on track too!

As a fitness professional, how can I recommend this? The solution lies with protein of course! You may have previously read my article on protein pancakes (to which I routinely add chocolate chips), but my new obsession of an old favorite is the protein dessert-shake. Calling it a milkshake doesn’t seem quite right, but calling it just a protein shake doesn’t either. It meets perfectly in the middle and is creamy, rich, with just the right amount of frothiness. And it fits your nutrition goals.

IngredientsIMG_20160409_105729.jpg

1 scoop protein powder

1 medium sized banana, frozen, in chunks (or two tiny bananas if you live in Vietnam)

1/4 cup milk (almond, regular, etc.)

1/2 cup ice

Instructions

Add all ingredients to blender. Blend. Pour into mug and enjoy.

Options

Add a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips or a dollop of whipped cream. Totally recommended and makes the whole experience that much richer.

Calorie Breakdown

Protein Powder (120 cal) + Banana (110) + Almond Milk (10) + Chocolate Chips (40) + Whipped Cream (15) = 295 total calories

The best part is that it starts your day with at least 20-25 grams of protein depending on your protein powder!
